Lavandula x Intermedia (Lavandin)

 Lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia)

The hybrid Lavandula x intermedia (Lavandin or Dutch Lavender) is a cross of Lavandula Angustifolia (English) & Lavandula Latifolia (Spiked Lavender).  Lavandin has higher levels of camphor making this variety undesirable for culinary uses. The camphor also gives this fragrance a woodsy undertone, unlike the more floral scent of L. Angustifolia varieties.  Lavandin varieties are favored for their larger flowers and high oil yield.  Lavandins can grow up to 48 inches high or higher, produce more spikes than other varieties and have longer stems (up to 30 inches).  The size and hardiness of this hybrid make them a great choice for using as hedges and harvesting for essential oils as well as fresh and dried bouquets.
